/ PR Newswire / —

Cage 4 All will work with young people attending the 21 Centrepoint hostels, ensuring that each has their own Cage Cricket kit. This will enable Centrepoint staff and young people to not only have the opportunity to undertake some sport, but through the playing of Cage Cricket will see enhanced self-esteem, increased confidence as well as development in teamwork and communication, both of which stem directly from the objectives of the sport.

As part of the partnership, Cage 4 All attended Centrepoint’s “Old Skool Sportz Day” held at Mile End Sports Stadium, London. This event gave young people from the hostels (including representatives from Bradford and Sunderland who travelled down to participate) an opportunity to have a go at various sports including football and athletics. It was Cage Cricket however which caught the imagination with queues forming waiting to take their turn.

Actor and Chairman of Cage 4 All, Colin Salmon, had fun playing and talking with the young people and will be visiting Centrepoint’s Bradford Foyer hostel to hand over a Cage Cricket kit soon. Colin also gave Seyi Obakin, CEO Centrepoint a few cricketing tips too!

Simon Young, Managing Director of Cage 4 All, said, “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Centrepoint for the foreseeable future. I think all of the team have been blown away with the enthusiasm and energy of both the staff and the young people. Their stories can provide moments of real inspiration to people of all ages within communities everywhere.”

“We have seen today how Cage Cricket not only fires people’s imagination and enthusiasm to play, but as demonstrated by our two young Activators, the game provides a clear pathway for young people to grow in stature and to then introduce Cage Cricket to other groups as the young people take on the role of a coach, teaching people how to play.

As Cage 4 All take Cage Cricket into the Centrepoint hostels, our aim is that each centre will produce their own leaders, and it will be these leaders (often coming from the most unexpected people) who will deliver to other Centrepoint hostels and most importantly to groups within their own localities, thereby demonstrating Centrepoint’s own commitment of working with each community as a whole.

Jon Ward, Centrepoint Major Donor Manager said: “Cage Cricket was a huge hit at our annual sports day and we’re keen to give all the young people we work with a chance to put bat to ball. Experiencing homelessness so early in life can shatter the confidence of the young people we work with, leaving them feeling isolated. But we know from our sports programmes that getting active can play a massive part in changing that. As well as a safe place to stay, young people need to tackle the health problems caused by homelessness and rebuild their self-esteem if they’re to turn their lives around.”
