LONDON, 18th September 2014, PRNewswire/ - Whether it is sight of Brian Lara crashing a shot through the covers, Courtney Walsh terrorising batsmen with short pitched bowling or Chris Gayle launching the ball way beyond the boundary rope, there is something very special about cricket in the Caribbean.

Through associations with Hampshire Cricket, the growing sport of Cage Cricket has been played on Barbados for the past year, led by former Hampshire batsman, Gordon Greenidge, and The University of the West Indies. More recently, Cage 4 All have not only brought Cage Cricket to new players, but engaged some of these players with the social development that is key to Cage 4 All's mission.

Cage 4 All’s Director, Sheromie Brewster took the opportunity of a return to her home island to expand the initial work achieved last year. Young people from across the island have played Cage Cricket, culminating in the sport being a focal point of Ovaltastic. This family community event took place at the Kensington Oval, home of Bajan Cricket, and comprised of fun activities, before the return to a new school year.

There has also been the opportunity for new Activators (those qualified to deliver Cage Cricket on behalf of Cage 4 All) from across the island to become involved.

Sheromie explains more. “People have really enjoyed playing Cage Cricket. We have had students from schools, college and University all participating as well as parents joining in with them.

Providing Cage Cricket through Cage 4 All has brought them together and keeps them motivated. They have all made new friends and taken ownership of the game, which will help for the delivery and promotion across the wider community.

We look forward to seeing more sessions being delivered, more Activators trained and to providing ongoing support for everyone who participates. From this we aim to see cultural partnerships forged from the Caribbean to other Cage playing communities throughout the world.”

Chair of Cage 4 All, Colin Salmon, “These young people provide an amazing insight into the value Cage 4 All can deliver through Cage Cricket. The fact that these young people have met through Cage is a major key to its inclusive spirit.”

Their verdict : We don’t like Cage Cricket…..WE LOVE IT!
