The event was a platform for the development of research projects on the subject of the exhibition and its sub-topics: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the introduction of energy-efficient technologies and the provision of universal access to sustainable energy.

“Today, new tools to reduce CO2 emissions are acquiring a special relevance: we need innovative political solutions, we need new levers and economic mechanisms, as well as investment in new technologies. By creating together an effective international platform for dialogue on the subjects of the Future Energy Forum and efficiently demonstrating the achievements of science and progress to address the ambitious global targets, I hope we will make a worthy contribution to our EXPO-2017,” said Talgat Yermegiyaev, Chairman of the Board, JSC "NC Astana EXPO-2017", referring to the participants of the forum.

The event was attended by more than 500 leading experts in the energy industry, academics, heads of public and non-governmental organizations, and representatives from the public sector. They discussed the issues of climate change, environmental and energy security, and investment in projects to reduce the absorption and emission of waste disposal. During the analytical, information-sharing and research sessions, participants presented their work. The results of this work will be shown at the Future Energy Forum, which will take place within the framework of EXPO 2017.

At the end of the Forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, confirming all parties’ cooperation in the organization and conducting of the “Online Expo-2017”, an international virtual "green" innovations and projects competition. This aims to mobilize the scientific potential of Kazakhstan. Their efforts in this direction join those of 15 other parties, including national companies, development institutions, ministries and educational organizations. They agreed on the establishment of the headquarters for the organization and conducting of the «Online Expo-2017» contest.

National Company "Astana EXPO-2017" has also launched an International Commission to select a project for one of the EXPO-2017 iconic pavilions –the  Best Practices Area.
