Happy #NationalDonutDay from @Entenmanns & @SalvationArmyUS! TweetThe Salvation Army established the holiday, which is held annually on the first Friday of June, in 1938 in Chicago. The intention was to honor the “Donut Lassies” who served the treats to soldiers during World War I and to help raise funds necessary during the Great Depression. This occasion solidified the donut as a permanent symbol of the services The Salvation Army continues to provide.
Entenmann’s works hard to keep up with the demands of Entenmann’s lovers’ nationwide, utilizing donut factories in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Fort Worth, Texas and Montebello, California to produce over 780 million donuts each year.
