Seafood Nutrition Partnership Encourages Americans to Celebrate National Seafood Month by Taking the #HealthyHeartPledge
Eating Seafood Twice Per Week with the Healthy Heart Pledge Promotes a Range of Health Benefits
PR Newswire – Washington, D.C., Oct. 3, 2016
In celebration of National Seafood Month, the Seafood Nutrition Partnership is asking Americans to take the Healthy Heart Pledge and eat at least two servings of seafood each week in an effort to raise awareness around seafood’s health benefits.
Eating at least two servings of seafood each week, which is recommended by the USDA’s Dietary Guidelines for Americans, provides a variety of health benefits. Seafood is one of the leanest proteins and high in healthy fats known as omega-3s, which are essential for heart and brain health. Additionally, an estimated 50,000 deaths from heart disease and stroke are avoided every year by eating fish.
“National Seafood Month is the perfect time to celebrate that seafood is a super food, with tons of health benefits, especially for your heart,” says Linda Cornish, executive director of the Seafood Nutrition Partnership. “There’s no better way to celebrate than by taking the Healthy Heart Pledge and incorporating more seafood into your diet.”
The Healthy Heart Pledge is an easy way to let others know you are making a positive commitment to your health. You can take the Pledge by “Liking” Seafood Nutrition Partnership on Facebook, using the hashtag #HealthyHeartPledge on Twitter or Instagram or by signing up on the Seafood Nutrition Partnership website.
As part of National Seafood Month, the Seafood Nutrition Partnership has created and curated a variety of seafood recipes and tips to highlight how easy, delicious and nutritious seafood can be. The Partnership is also conducting a recipe sweepstakes, encouraging individuals to share their favorite seafood recipes on Twitter or Instagram made with five ingredients or less for a chance to win $250.
“National Seafood Month is the perfect time for people to incorporate more seafood into their diets,” says Judith Rodriguez, Ph.D., RDN, director of the Seafood Nutrition Partnership. “We’re excited to promote National Seafood Month in such an interactive way by encouraging people to take the Healthy Heart Pledge and participate in our recipe sweepstakes. Celebrating National Seafood Month has never been easier and tastier while also enjoying all the health benefits seafood has to offer.”
