Gilead Sciences, the PBC Foundation, and Friends of the PBC Foundation have launched “All the Feelings with PBC™” – a global awareness campaign designed to foster open, empathetic conversations between people living with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and their care networks.
At the heart of the campaign is a series of evocative paintings by Berlin-based artist and architect Nour Khwies, each capturing the emotional and physical dimensions of life with PBC. These works debuted at The European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) 2025 Congress in Amsterdam and will tour globally, with stops in the U.S., Canada, Italy, Austria, and beyond.

Complementing the artwork is a cinematic short film directed by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Jay Weneta. Narrated through the voice of one woman, the stories of Dilek (Germany), Angela (Scotland), Joana (Portugal), and L. Marie (U.S.) are told. The film explores their journeys and how their stories were transformed into visual art. A fifth painting symbolizes the often-invisible nature of PBC symptoms, such as chronic itch and fatigue.
These people have real lived experiences with PBC and have been compensated by Gilead.
“The often-invisible realities of living with PBC highlight the value of compelling visual representations that bring these experiences to light. ‘All the Feelings with PBC’ offers a unique opportunity for people living with PBC to share their personal stories and perspectives,” said Mo Christie, Head of Patient Services at the PBC Foundation.
Gilead Sciences, the PBC Foundation, and Friends of the PBC Foundation are united in their commitment to advancing understanding of PBC. Through ongoing research, innovation, and meaningful collaboration, they are working to address the unmet needs of those living with this condition.
The ‘All the Feelings with PBC’ campaign embodies this shared mission—amplifying individual voices and shedding light on the often-invisible symptoms of PBC. Together, these organizations are striving toward a future where every person affected by PBC feels seen, heard, and empowered throughout their journey.
“As a hepatologist formerly in practice, I know how challenging it can be for people living with PBC to talk about their condition, but I also know how important it is to understand their full experience,” said Carrie Frenette, Executive Director for Global Medical Affairs, Liver Diseases at Gilead Sciences. “The ‘All the Feelings with PBC’ initiative helps bridge the gap by encouraging more open conversations between people living with PBC and their healthcare providers, ultimately encouraging more comprehensive and compassionate care.”
Too many people living with PBC still receive suboptimal care in relation to the treatment of PBC and management of their symptoms. The PBC Foundation and Friends of the PBC Foundation are bringing together healthcare professionals, pharmaceutical companies, patient organizations and people living with PBC with the common goal “to make a higher level of care the norm and not the exception for every person living with PBC.”
