Ground-Breaking Research and Healthcare Innovations Revealed at the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) 2015

Doha, Qatar, 17th February 2015/ PR Newswire/ - Health leaders from more than 80 countries have gathered in Qatar today to learn about the latest research, ideas and health innovations which have the potential to revolutionize the future of global healthcare at the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH).

The first day of the summit saw world leaders, policy makers and healthcare experts come together to discuss solutions to some of the most urgent global health challenges, including addressing the epidemic of type 2 diabetes, tackling dementia, enhancing patient safety, improving universal health coverage and addressing the decline in children’s mental health.

As well as take part in panel discussions on these key health issues, attendees also heard from keynote speakers including Dr Don Berwick, former health adviser to the Obama administration, who talked passionately about the importance of diffusing effective health innovations to improve patient care and safety. Participants also learned about some of the newest and ground-breaking innovations from around the world, showcased at the summit, including 3D printed prosthetics, a virtual surgery simulator and new mobile health apps.

Day two of the summit will see panels discuss solutions to the challenge of increasing cancer rates and treatment costs, communicating complex messages and tackling the Ebola crisis. By hosting over 1000 delegates from over 80 different countries WISH delivers ideas, innovations and solutions that can be translated into real-life policy to make healthcare more effective and more affordable for everyone.

The summit also features two special panels; one that took place today on Genomics and the future of personalised medicine; and one tomorrow on Newborn and Maternal Health hosted alongside The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Harvard University and Save the Children.

Over the course of the two-day summit nine major reports will be published, examining research and case studies from around the world to provide new learnings and solutions to diverse and widespread challenges.
