ALROSA showcases The Dynasty unique diamond collection in New York
The clearest and the most valuable polished diamond in Russian history will be auctioned on November 29
November 15, 2017. New York - ALROSA, the world leader in rough diamond production, has finalized a global roadshow of its unique collection of polished diamonds, The Dynasty, in New York. On November 14, ALROSA held the one and only public preview of the Dynasty in Carnegie Hall with participation of Valery Gergiev, Artistic Director of Mariinsky Theatre, as a special guest.
The Dynasty collection consists of five diamonds and was produced from a 179-carat unique rough diamond named The Romanovs, which was mined from Nyurbinskaya kimberlite pipe in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in 2015. It took a year and a half to create the collection.
There was a good reason to choose the name for the collection, which is connected with ALROSA’s intention to revive the traditions and memory of renowned Russian jewelers famous for their craftsmanship and filigree since the Russia’s first cutting and polishing factory founded by Peter I early in the 18th century.
The Dynasty, the main 51.38-carat diamond, is a 57-facet traditional round brilliant-cut diamond, Triple Excellent, D, VVS1. Such characteristics occur in less than 1% of diamonds worldwide. It is the most clear large diamond ever manufactured throughout the Russian jewelry history, and it is expected to be the most valuable stone as well.
Other diamonds in the collection were called after the dynasties that played a crucial role in the development of the Russian jewelry. A 16.67-carat round brilliant-cut diamond, the second by weight, got a name The Sheremetevs. The Orlovs is a 5.05-carat oval diamond. The Vorontsovs is a 1.73-carat pear-cut diamond, and The Yusupovs is a 1.39-carat diamond.
It is the first branded polished diamond collection for ALROSA, which was widely known only as a mining company before. The collection gives a start to a new stage in the development of ALROSA’s cutting division that will actively develop polishing of extra-large and colored diamonds.
The collection started its international roadshow in September, prior to New York it visited Hong Kong and Israel. New York is the last stop of the roadshow, the demonstration for potential US clients had been taking place from November 8 at the office of Rapaport Group, the world's largest diamond trading network.
The diamonds will be auctioned individually through ALROSA online platform on November 29.
Pavel Vinikhin, CEO of DIAMONDS ALROSA, the miner’s polishing division:
“We see a high level of interest from dozens of potential industry and private clients, and it gives us reasons to expect a good price at the auction. To date, ALROSA is the only diamond miner with its own polishing facilities, and we consider it to be one of our advantages, as origin guarantees are very important for modern consumers. Another advantage is the combination of modern technologies and the Russian jewelry mastership. We expect that the revival of their traditions will be a worthy contribution to the promotion of the Russian jewelry stones’ brand in the global market”.
