DICOTA celebrates 20 prosperous years at the forefront of the global carry solutions industry
BIETIGHEIM-BISSINGEN, Germany, 11 April, 2012 – Created by a visionary German ad man, DICOTA marks two decades of operation that have become synonymous worldwide with innovation, style and quality.
DICOTA has been designing, manufacturing and supplying protective carrying solutions of the highest quality since 1992. The company offers unrivalled experience, combined with unique service through a global network of sales offices.
Founder Siegmund Gailing began producing customised computer bags while working in the advertising business. One of his key clients, Allianz, invited him to come up with a secure carrying solution for carrying for its sales force’s portable computers.
Gailing produced his first designs in cooperation with SIEMENS/NIXDORF. The enthusiastic reception to Gailing’s smart, durable and lightweight bags from the Allianz staff prompted him to develop a second series, which he sold through distributors Ingram, Actebis, and Techdata.
“I started off alone in the development and distribution,” explains Gailing. “My wife Gundel took over administration and accounting was originally managed by another colleague.”
“Finding the right name for the company was a challenge,” Gailing recalls. “We assigned different agencies, but none could come up with a satisfactory solution that worked in all languages. One Sunday morning, my wife woke up and said to me, ‘I think I have name for the company: ‘Die Computer Tasche’ (The Computer Bag in Gailing’s native German). That’s how DI-CO-TA was born.”
Once established, DICOTA reached double-digit annual sales growth during its first decade of operation and expanded rapidly. “In 2001, when I sold 50.1% of the company to Masterflex AG, Gelsenkirchen,” says Gailing, “turnover had approached €30 million. We had 12 international subsidiaries and around 100 people on the payroll.”
Fast forward to 2012
