Love at First Text, or Annoying Don Juan?

Love at first text does not always work out for the country’s Casanovas. Twenty-nine percent of Americans would give a fake number to someone to avoid an embarrassing or uncomfortable situation. The lucky ones who do land dates, however, should update social profiles. More likely than not, they will be prescreened before the first date with more than half (51 percent) of Americans researching potential partners' social media networks before hitting the town.
Also, remember that while “selfie” may have been the word of the year, 81 percent of Americans say no to taking “selfies” on first dates. Once that first date blossoms into a relationship, however, some couples use photos to keep things exciting. In fact, 29 percent of Americans would send a sexy photo of themselves to their significant other. Meanwhile, many other Americans (56 percent) show their affection by sending emoticons or Emojis.
After the honeymoon phase, couples should keep their most bothersome qualities at bay or risk getting kicked to the curb. With 12 percent of Americans reporting they would break up with someone via text, their end might look a lot like their beginning.
According to those surveyed, the five most annoying (most aggravating listed first) communication habits in relationships are:
- "The Musing Maniac": my significant other/date doesn’t pay enough attention to me or often has their mind elsewhere when we are together
- "The Cool Caller": my significant other/date plays mind games and/or tries to test me for reactions
- "The Careless Communicator": my significant other/date and I constantly have misunderstandings due to vague communications
- "The Decision Ditcher": my significant other/date never makes decisions or is never happy with the decisions made
- "The Smothering Suitor": my significant other/date texts and calls me too frequently throughout the day and week
