LAS VEGAS CELEBRATES SUMMER WITH ULTIMATE CINCO DE MAYO BASH

Las Vegas hopefuls encouraged to “hit up” oversized piñata fashioned after the destination’s highly successful Mr. Las Vegasdotcom campaign character

LAS VEGAS (May 4, 2013) /PRNewswire/ — Las Vegas, one of the world’s most exciting travel locations, yesterday encouraged travelers to take a swing at the ultimate summer getaway by hitting a 16-foot piñata fashioned after the highly successful Mr. Las Vegasdotcom character featured in Las Vegas’ latest advertising campaign. The celebration in San Diego was the perfect kickoff to Cinco de Mayo weekend. The event culminated with one lucky grand prize winner breaking open the 3,500 pound piñata for a free trip to the “Entertainment Capital of the World.”

“No other destination offers the entertainment, dining, daylife and overall experience during the summer that Las Vegas offers,” said Cathy Tull, senior vice president of marketing for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). “We host nearly 40 million visitors every year, with more than half of them using the internet to plan their trips. This event was the perfect way for summer travelers to ‘hit up Las Vegasdotcom’ for the best of Las Vegas.”

All participants walked away winners, receiving a travel voucher good for $50 off a purchase of $250 or more on LasVegas.com. One lucky winner, who busted open the oversized piñata to a celebration of glitter and confetti in “Only Vegas” style, walked away with $5,000 toward a summer vacation in Las Vegas. Showgirls and the real Mr. Las Vegasdotcom were on hand to congratulate the winner and cheer on all participants.

The official website of Las Vegas is supported by an advertising campaign featuring Mr. Las Vegasdotcom. Seen throughout the campaign, he is a typical American male who happens to share his name with the website for one of the most famous and popular travel destinations in the world. Shot in a faux documentary style, the ads follow Las through his daily routine as people pepper him with questions about show tickets, hotel accommodations and more. In response he refers them back to the actual website. Beyond using the website for booking these activities, LasVegas.com offers visitors comprehensive and reliable information about Las Vegas’ many amenities and attractions – from the well-known entertainer Celine Dion at Caesars Palace to the secret pizza restaurant at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
