Campaign to Raise $250K for Feeding America through “Buy a Bottle” Donation Program; Award $100K to Help Continue the Work of Community Food Banks Nominated by Consumers

MORRISTOWN, NJ, May 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Bayer HealthCare LLC, the makers of One A Day® Women’s Multivitamins, along with Feeding America®, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, and nine-time Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow kick off year two of their Nutrition Mission with the announcement of a donation program and grant opportunity to benefit Feeding America’s network of more than 200 community food banks that help distribute over 3 billion pounds of food to Americans annually.

Food insecurity is an alarming problem in America with more than 50 million people, including 16.7 million children, living in food insecure households. It has no boundaries: A single mother, working a minimum wage job, who can’t afford to pay her rent and also buy food for her children; an elderly man, whose Social Security income doesn’t cover the cost of his life-saving medications and his groceries; a father, recently laid off, who must choose between paying the electric bill and buying food for his family. What these people, like millions of other Americans, have in common is that they depend on the assistance of Feeding America’s nationwide network to help put food on the table day in and day out.

As part of the Nutrition Mission, a national charitable campaign to help provide nourishment to the millions of Americans who live with food insecurity, the One A Day Women’s brand will make a donation of two meals to Feeding America for every purchase of One A Day Women’s Multivitamins through July 28, 2013 – up to 2 million meals.** New for this year, the One A Day Women’s brand is also calling for Americans to share stories of the “Nutrition Missions” taking place each and every day to help fight hunger in local communities for a chance to be selected for one of four $25,000 grants to be awarded to Feeding America food banks in September during Hunger Action Month™.

Winners will be announced in September, with one winner receiving a trip to meet Sheryl Crow in New York City to help further raise awareness of food insecurity and inspire others to help fight hunger.
