BACARDÍ® RUM AND ROLLING STONE TOAST TO CUBAN INDEPENDENCE DAY AND THE REBEL IN ALL OF US

Concert event featured performances by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Fitz and The Tantrums, and DJ Cassidy with other celebrity guest presenters

Coral Gables, Fla., May 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — BACARDÍ®, the world’s best-selling and most awarded rum, was enjoyed last night at the BACARDÍ Rebels event hosted by Rolling Stone and sponsored by BACARDÍ rum. BACARDÍ rum, proud of its Cuban roots where it was created in 1862, toasted Cuban Independence Day with a Cuba Libre to celebrate the courageous spirits of the brand’s founders.

Jamie Foxx, Alessandra Ambrosio, Danny Pino, Aidy Bryant, Cecily Strong, Bobby Moynihan, John Starks, Larry Johnson and Earl Monroe, were among the famous faces that turned out for electrifying performances from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Fitz and The Tantrums at New York City’s historic Roseland Ballroom last night. DJ Cassidy was on site, spinning throughout the night, while celebrity guest presenters and consumers enjoyed exclusive, legendary BACARDl cocktails.

The high-profile event featured a “Rebels Room,” dedicated to iconic pioneers in music, pop culture, history and rum-making. The display paid homage to individuals like BACARDÍ rum’s founder Don Facundo Bacardí Massó, a pioneer in rum-making, and Emilio Bacardi, a key player in Cuba’s fight for independence starting in the late 1800s, men who brought revolutionary change to the rum industry and to Cuba despite endless challenges. Elements of the deep heritage and history of BACARDÍ rum were showcased together with other engaging pieces of the brand’s Cuban provenance.

“BACARDÍ has long embraced playing a pivotal role in changing the status quo. At the turn of the 20th century, when Cuban patriots and their American comrades joined together to fight against Spanish oppression, the early founders of BACARDÍ rum were right there, fighting alongside them,” said Toby Whitmoyer, vice president and brand managing director, rum category, at Bacardi U.S.A., Inc. “Tonight we toast their courageous efforts with the original Cuba Libre, the cocktail born in a moment of celebration and named for the liberty the rebels fought so hard to gain.”

Created in 1900 by American soldiers and Cuban patriots gathered in Old Havana during the Spanish-American War, the original Cuba Libre is a refreshing mix of BACARDÍ rum, Coca-Cola® and lime. For more than 112 years, the Cuba Libre, the natural cocktail choice for rebellious spirits, has been enjoyed and remains one of the world’s favorite cocktails.

About BACARDÍ Rums
In 1862, in Santiago de Cuba, BACARDÍ revolutionized the spirits industry when founder Don Facundo Bacardi Massó began producing his remarkable light-bodied, smooth rum – BACARDÍ, the world’s favorite rum brand. The unique taste of BACARDÍ rum inspired cocktail pioneers to invent some of the world’s most famous drink recipes including the Mojito, the Daiquiri, the Cuba Libre, the Piña Colada, and the Presidente. BACARDÍ rum has won more than 550 awards for quality and taste making it the world’s most awarded rum, as well as the most awarded spirit of all time. Today, BACARDÍ rum is produced in Puerto Rico, following the production legacy set forth by Don Facundo – crafted in a five step distillation process, mellowed in American white oak barrels, and filtered five times for unparalleled quality and smoothness. www.Bacardi.com
