What’s Your #Hashtag? Make Your Content Easily Discoverable!

Hashtags--we see them everywhere on social media, from tweets to Instagram posts! They have become such a popular term in our modern-day culture that the word “hashtag” was officially added to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary in 2014. Adding a hashtag to your post allows it to become discoverable and searchable. Hashtagging is an easy way to group images, topics, and conversations with other like-minded users. Are you looking to build and boost visibility for your brand? Need help reaching your target audience? Or do you just want in on a trending conversation? Then look no further and make #hashtag your best friend. Here are some helpful tips!
Use Branded Hashtags
This can be your company name, campaign, tagline, name of product or services. It’s an awesome way to drive users back to your brand.
Keep it Short & Sweet
Avoid hashtags that are too long. Keep it to a concise phrase or single word that defines the topic. Use basic words to make your tags discoverable to increase your visibility. For example: instead of #BigYellowDiamond use #YellowDiamond or #ChocolateCoveredPretzel use #ChocolatePretzel
Avoid Using Too Many Hashtags
Engage, don’t distract your followers. Be mindful of how many hashtags you use, otherwise a post can look spammy and desperate. For example: it’s optimal to use 1-2 hashtags for Twitter. For Instagram, try using less than 10.
Put on Your Thinking Cap
Be creative and fun! Use cheeky humor or puns. Make your hashtag memorable and catchy. It may even go viral.
Do Your Research!
See what’s trending and relevant within your target audience on social media. Browse through your hashtag to make sure it’s appropriate for the topic. Avoid attaching your brand to anything considered offensive or used by another competitor.
Here at MultiVu, we are no stranger to using hashtags on our social feeds. What are your favorite hashtags?
